Barcelona-Nablus / Nablus-Barcelona
June-july 2022

“Correspondences” is a collaboration of Associació Hèlia, CliCme_inclusió, Family Defense Society (FDS), and Alaa Badarneh.

“Correspondences” is a photographic dialogue between women from Barcelona (Catalonia) and Nablus (Palestine) who participate in photography trainings in their respective localities.. All of them are survivors of gender-based violence.

The participants were established in pairs (a woman from Barcelona and a woman from Nablus). Each week during two months they communicated their daily life (what they observed, what happened to them, or drew their attention) through pictures shared via WhatsApp thus creating a photo dialog.

Sorry, No posts.

"

I really enjoyed participating in the Correspondences project because it allows for the language barrier to be broken, and for an emotional communication to be established…

"

I felt close to her within the photographic dialogue. I have experienced very intensely what
we communicated with the images and what each photograph
could suggest to each one of us. When I started the project, I sent her a welcome photograph
and I opened up to her and to something special in this experience, and
today I sent her the last photograph with gratitude for everything
we have shared.

Participating in this project has made me understand many things about the reality of
Palestinian women, not only I have shared and understood that she is very close to me in terms of
her desires and her view of life as a woman, but the project has also pushed me to investigate
the reality of women in Palestine, to understand the political situation
they live in… to investigate about their history… Thanks to the project today I have a clearer knowledge
of the situation of women in Palestine and I would like to continue sending
photographs to my partner… I hope we keep in touch…

"

I thought that every photo she shared with me was a way for her to express herself, just as every
photo I shared expressed my own self. By understanding the photos, she shared with me
I could see how she felt and the nature of the life she lives…
